What Is a Dental Study Club?

A dental study club is a small group of dentists and specialists in the same community who meet regularly to learn, review cases, and plan treatment together. Unlike a one-day CE course, a study club is ongoing. Members see the same colleagues throughout the year. That builds the trust needed to talk openly about difficult cases, restorations that didn't hold up, and techniques they're still mastering.

Each Seattle Study Club chapter brings together general dentists, periodontists, oral surgeons, orthodontists, endodontists, and prosthodontists. That interdisciplinary mix is the point. A complex implant or full-mouth reconstruction gets examined from every angle before the patient is ever in the chair.

What Happens at a Local Study Club Meeting

Most clubs meet 8 to 10 times per year, with sessions running three to four hours. A typical year includes:

  • Lectures from nationally recognized speakers on restorative, surgical, orthodontic, and emerging topics
  • Treatment planning sessions where members present their own cases and work through them as a group
  • Hands-on learning that turns new techniques into skills you can use Monday morning
  • Time to connect with the specialists and general dentists you refer to and receive referrals from

Each club's curriculum is shaped by its director and members, so the topics reflect what dentists in that community actually need.

Why Join a Dental Club in Your Area

The strongest practices are rarely built alone. A local dental club gives you a peer group of skilled clinicians close by, people you'll see at meetings and work alongside on shared patients. Over time, that leads to:

  • Stronger referral relationships built on trust and a shared treatment philosophy
  • Better outcomes on complex cases, because you plan them with input from every discipline involved
  • Continuous growth instead of scattered one-off courses
  • Less isolation. You have a group of colleagues who understand the pressures of running a practice

Members also get access to Seattle Study Club's national events, including the annual Symposium, where clubs from across the country come together.
